Bad to the Bone

Ethan has recently acquired a taste for bike riding. His mother, in all her generosity, has purchased a bike for him to ride (a DI special). Ethan has taken to riding it like a duck to water. He will ride circles around the carport next to the home, and up and down the sidewalk near our home. At the moment, he has training wheels to assist him. His father is determined to have him riding without training wheels, and, following the purchase of a helmet and perhaps elbow pads, will promote the idea to Ethan. Already he is being trained in the school of hard knocks to go fast but carefully, especially around corners. In fact, on one particular ride he crashed three times in a row because of high uncontrolled speeds around a bend on a park trail. He cried for the first two, was mad, and needed comfort. Apparently the experience scared him a bit. But after a brief explanation from his father that crashing was a part of riding bikes, and after it became less scary, he got right up on the third crash saying "I'm OK-I'm OK-I'm OK". A true warrior. That's my boy!

What a handsome young man he's turning into! But he's got good-lookin' parents too :)

I hope Ethan is able to stay on the bike, and not fall on his head. That happened to Aaron. Forever, thereafter, he kept asking me...

"Nathan, would you share your popcicle with your brother Aaron?" "No.", "Nathan want to go and ride bikes with me""No." "Hey Nate got any money I can have" "Uh . . No.". "Hey Nate, that's a nice shirt, mind if I borrow it?" "NO."

He was such a mooch. Lets just hope his genes are recessive.

I see that sibling rivalry survives into adult hood. How sweet. Ethan sure looks good on that bike. Isn't summer divine?

Hey miss thang! You really are super mom! Bikes are so much fun, although we have had a few panic attacks that make me just want to give up all together. We have taken away Brayden's training wheels and you could say he is a little bitter. He is boycotting the bike and has traded in those two wheels for the two wheels of a scooter, where he can keep one foot firmly planted on the ground. Oh boy. Let the drama begin. The girls are next. Lord have mercy! :-)
