Oh, we had Halloween too!

The stars at night were not in sight in the Northwest this past Halloween.  However, rain did not deter this Baxter posse.  Dad was prepared with two umbrellas in tow as he took a night off of school to take his kids for THE night of all nights...candy, candy and more candy.  Everyone one was excited.  Tron was exquipped with blades in hand and bucket in the other.  Our local S.W.A.T. Team member was armed to the teeth (and mustache).  And Puff the Magic Dragon was comfy cozy in his green scales, content to gather as much sugar delight as possible.  Momma and Baby Bleu Jay were content to greet little ghouls at our front step with tricks and treats.
But really, does Halloween all begin and end in one night?  Or does it start the second school begins and kids are talking costumes, parties and what scary houses to avoid this year while trick or treating?
This year was a snap with Adam grabbing his costume right off the bat at Old Navy while shopping for back to school clothes in August.  Check.  While paroosing through Ross one night with Mom, Maille just happened upon her dream S.W.A.T. uniform for half the cost of Costco's $20 SWAT set.  Score & Check!  Then there was Ethan.  "I'd like to be Tron, Mom."  Sure son, no problem.  Who is Tron and what does he look like.  Who is Tron???  No I didn't catch that wave when I was a teen, but Dad did.  He began to explain all about it and helped me pause the movie just a the right moments to try and capture a decent shot of their light infused spandex suits.  With a few pictures and a sketch or two on a pad of paper, I was about to embark on the re-creation of this cyber suit, one strip of duck tape at a time.  After careful alignment and placement of the 'light strips' and managing to attach a blade pack to the back, Ethan was outfitted with the costume he had always dreamed of...Tron (the orange one with two blades).  I thought it looked just fine and hoped Ethan would be pleased with the outcome.  Well, my heart sang when he stepped into the room of his primary halloween party and his classroom halloween party and all the boys stopped and stared at his costume and said, "WOW!  Cool! Where did you get your costume?  Can I try one of your blades?  That is so AWESOME!"  It's what every mom dreams and hopes will happen to their little boy.  That your son will stand center stage and glean the respect and admiration of his peers.  Awesome!  Chalk that one up.  Who would have thought duck tape and spandex could bring instant fame?
"Hey Mom, can I be this again next year?"
Sure!

(And yes, I know it's December 4th.  Better late than never, oui?!)

Wow, you really did rock with that costume!

And, that Maille still cracks me up!

We're hand in hand with our umbrellas, girl. Hang in there. It's gonna be one wet winter...

Awesome job mom! I love your posts! I have no idea who Tron is either!
